Absence and Honesty

I find myself on uncomfortable ground.  While I take the risk of sharing my fictional tales, which is a vulnerable undertaking, I am not one to share my personal, real-life events.  We are, as a family, private.  Still, there are many of you would perhaps like to know what we have been going through.

On August 7th 2020, our lives took an unexpected curve.  We learned our youngest daughter of six, had bone cancer.  She had an Osteosarcoma tumor on her right femur, only six millimeters from the growth plate in her knee.   She endured eight grueling months of intense chemotherapy and, about one year ago, underwent a surgery to remove her right leg above the knee.  Now, we are healing and, although our lives will never be normal, we are moving forward to a new happy, healthy future.

In my prolonged absence, I found solace in words.  The simple act of putting one word after another on a page became a constant outlet for the fear, anger and anxiety.  I deleted most of them and have hidden many more.  But some became published stories and the latest won an award.

I’ve made some changes to simplify my website.  I have new links to the published stories that I will update as new ones occur.  For now, that is all I can promise.  But I am a creator and a dreamer and this too will evolve and bloom into something different.

Keep reading and please share with me your thoughts and any of your own published successes.  I love to toot the horn of my creative companions!
